A GIO Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance policy gives you peace of mind with cover for accidental loss or damage, fire, theft or attempted theft, malicious damage or storm damage to your vehicle.

It also covers damage to other people's property caused by your vehicle up to $20 million.

You may be eligible for Maximum No Claim Discount/Rating Protection For Life at no extra cost. This means that your maximum No Claim Discount/ Rating is protected, no matter how many claims you have in the future or who is at fault.
A Damaged Car Won?t Wreck Your Week.

If you are able to drive your GIO insured car into one of our assessment centres after an approved claim, we will guarantee to have your car repaired within 7 days. All repair work we authorise for your vehicle will be guaranteed for life, and if for some reason we can?t fix your car within 7 days we will arrange a courtesy car for you on the eighth day to use until your car is repaired.

Optional car insurance covers

For extra peace of mind, consider the following optional covers that may be available to you depending on your circumstances. These may increase or decrease your premium.

Type of Cover Description
Hire car after an event We will arrange and pay the reasonable costs for a 'small' category hire car for up to 14 days if your vehicle is damaged by an event.
No Claim Discount / Rating protection Your NCD will not be reduced, even if you make a claim.
Windscreen and window glass damage If only the windscreen or window glass in your vehicle is damaged, you will not have to pay any excess for that claim.
Named Driver (Restricted Cover) You will get a premium discount but cover only applies if the person driving your vehicle is a listed driver on your policy. Click on Named Driver for further details.

Note 1. No Claim Discount / Rating Protection

We have the right to alter the terms of cover for No Claim Discount/Rating Protection and Maximum No Claim Discount/Rating Protection For Life, including excess, premiums and acceptance of cover according to our underwriting rules. Applies to cars, 4WD's, utilities and vans up to two tonnes carrying capacity which was manufactured after 1975 and have Comprehensive Cover.

Note 2. 7 Day Repair Guarantee

Applies to cars, 4WD's, utilities, and vans up to 2 tonnes carrying capacity which were manufactured after 1975 which are comprehensively insured with GIO. The vehicle must be driven to a GIO Motor Vehicle Assessing Centre for repairs following an approved claim. The offer excludes vehicles towed to a GIO Motor Vehicle Assessing Centre. Repairs to vehicles are to be carried out as directed by GIO. Excludes vehicles damaged as a result of hail or flood, or to vehicles to which additional private work is to be carried out. Available for repairs for one claim only. Repairs to be made at the same time for additional claims will increase term of offer by 7 days for each claim (eg. 2 claims, 14 days). 7 days is calculated as 7 calendar days beginning on the day the vehicle is driven to the GIO Motor Vehicle Assessment Centre. The Courtesy car will be provided on the 8th calendar day.

Under this benefit we will pay for the daily hiring of the courtesy car. A car hire bond may apply and if it does you will have to pay this bond to the hiring company. You will be advised of any such bond at the time you pick up the car. The courtesy car provided will be a 'small category' vehicle.
