Lifetime new car replacement
Market Value*
You can choose to insure your car for market value rather than a specified amount, if we agree. This option may reduce your premium. Except for the terms of this optional cover, the cover provided by your policy otherwise remains the same.
Note: If you select this optional cover, it cannot be removed from the policy during the period of insurance.

Lifetime repair guarantee
If we authorise the repairs, we guarantee the quality of the workmanship and materials for the life of the car. If a defect arises as a result of faulty materials or workmanship, we will rectify the problem.
Choice of repairer
We can arrange the repair of your car, or you can choose your own repairer. Our lifetime repair guarantee applies even if you choose your repairer, as long as we authorise the repairs.

$20 million legal liability cover
Provides you, or someone you authorise to drive your car, with up to $20 million to pay compensation and the associated legal costs for loss or damage your car causes to another person's vehicle or property.
Accidental loss or damage cover
We'll cover you for accidental loss or damage from incidents such as hail, storm (including cyclone), flood, fire, theft, collision and impact.
Malicious damage or vandalism cover
A malicious act is something that is done on purpose, with intent, as opposed to by accident. This includes things like graffiti or key marks on your car.
Damage by uninsured drivers
If a vehicle driven by an uninsured driver damages your car, and the driver of your car didn't contribute to the accident (this means that the other driver was entirely at fault), and you can provide us with the name, address and registration details of the person at fault, you'll be covered for reasonable costs of repair to your car, but no more than $5,000 for any one incident.

New car after a total loss for cars less than 2 years old
If your car is a total loss after an incident and is less than 2 years old nd you bought the car new from a licensed motor dealer, where possible we'll replace it with a brand new car of the same make and model (or similar if not available). Where this is not possible, we will instead pay the amount covered.
If your car is financed, we need consent from your financier before replacement.
*Two year new car replacement is not applicable to GIO Platinum customers who qualify for Lifetime new car replacement instead.
Emergency travel, accommodation and repairs
If your car's stolen or damaged in an incident, we'll pay reasonable costs for emergency repairs and if the incident was more than 100 km from home we'll also pay travel and accommodation costs if the car's not roadworthy or safe to drive.
Towing and storage costs
If your car's not safe to drive, we'll pay for it to be towed to our nearest assessment centre or repair facility, or another location agreed by us, plus any storage costs incurred between the time your claim is lodged and settled.
Transport cover
When your car is damaged in an incident covered by your policy, we will cover costs (up to $250 per claim) of your transport:
- from the scene of an incident to your destination if your car is not driveable;
- to and from the repairer of your car;
- to and from a hire car provider (if your policy provides this).

Personal property in your car
Provides up to $500 if personal items, for example your mobile phone, laptop or clothing, are lost or damaged in an incident. It doesn't include things like cash, business items and tools, apart from those supplied by the car manufacturer.
Locks and keys
If your car keys are stolen, we cover up to $1,000 towards the cost of replacing the keys and recoding your locks.
Third party property damage for caravans and trailers
Covers damage your caravan or trailer causes to another person's vehicle or property when being towed by your car.
Trailer cover
Provides up to $1,000 (for any one incident) for accidental loss or damage to your trailer caused by an incident when it:
- is attached to your car;
- runs out of control after separating from your car while your car is moving.
GIO Platinum hire car
Cover for a ‘similar make or model’ hire car for unlimited days (up to $100/day) when we have accepted your claim and your car is damaged and cannot be safely driven, is in for repairs (as part of your claim) or has been stolen. This policy includes hire car after theft (up to 21 days), and hire car after a no fault accident (for unlimited days) where you can provide the name, address and registration details of the other driver who was at fault.

Tools of Trade
When your car is damaged in an incident covered by your policy, which is not theft or attempted theft, we will cover your tools of trade for loss or damage in the same incident.
When your car is stolen and we have accepted your claim, we will cover your tools of trade for theft but only if the tools are locked in your car or in a locked tool box that is fitted to your car.
Limit is up to a total of $1,500 per claim.
After claims expenses
If your car’s stolen or damaged in an incident we will pay up to a total of $1000 towards:
- emergency travel and accommodation if your car's not safe to drive and you're more than 100km away from home.
- emergency repairs to make your car roadworthy or safe so that you can get to your destination or to a repairer.
- replacing your personal property such as clothing or electronic and telecommunication devices lost or damaged at the time of the incident.
Note: You need to provide us with all invoices and receipts. If you have Fire, Theft & Third Party Property Damage cover, this additional cover only applies when the incident is fire or theft.
Hire car after a not at fault incident
Hire car after a no fault accident (for unlimited days) where you can provide the name, address and registration details of the other driver who was at fault.

Hire car after theft
If your car has been stolen, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a hire car that meets your needs for up to 21 days. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage.

7 day repair guarantee - hire car
If your car isn't repaired within 7 calendar days of being driven to our assessment centre, we can arrange and pay for the reasonable costs of a compact hire car from day 8. We'll also insure the hire car against accidental loss and damage. Flood and hail damage claims excluded.
Please note: Learner drivers are not covered under the Hire Car option.
Optional covers
Depending on which level of cover you choose these may be automatically included or available to add on to your policy for an extra premium.
21 days hire car after an event
If your car is damaged and cannot be safely driven or is in for repairs or has been stolen, you can choose to:
- allow us to arrange and pay the reasonable cost of a hire car that is a similar make or model to your car (or if a similar make or model is not available you can choose an alternative equivalent car) using our provider (but only if our provider has a car available, and is within a reasonable distance of your location); or
- arrange a hire car using a provider of your choice.
The most we will pay is $75 per day for up to 21 days for any one incident. The cover stops when:
- your car is returned undamaged;
- we repair your car and return it to you;
- we settle your claim
Comprehensive Car Insurance includes these additional features: hire car after theft (up to 21 days) and hire car after a not at fault accident (for unlimited days) where you can provide the name, address and registration details of the other driver who was at fault.
Please note: Learner drivers are not eligible to drive the hire car under this optional cover.

Windscreen and window glass replacement
When the only damage to your car is the windscreen or window glass, we’ll cover the cost to repair or replace it without you having to pay an excess for the first claim in the period of insurance.
Where there is a chipped windscreen, that has not cracked, and can be safely repaired, we will also cover the cost of one repair without you losing your one excess free claim.
Roadside Assistance
Offers help with flat tyres, flat batteries, emergency fuel and more. There is no cover for GIO Roadside Assist during the first 24 hours of adding the cover. For full coverage details, please see the Terms and Conditions.
