What is GIO Home Assist?
GIO understands that when a home emergency happens you need support to get things back up and running as quickly as possible. GIO Home Assist is an optional cover that provides 24-hour assistance for selected trade services in the event of a home emergency. It is not a general maintenance or preventative service (e.g. it does not cover painting, replacing light bulbs, or tap washers) or a disaster response service.
If you’re eligible and have selected GIO Home Assist as an optional cover on your new or existing GIO Home Insurance policy, you can call us at 13 14 46, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the event of a home emergency. GIO Home Assist becomes available to use 24 hours after purchase.

What happens if you need to call?
Our support team will talk to you directly to conduct a preliminary assessment of the emergency over the phone and will arrange for assistance (in the form of a tradesperson) to be provided as quickly as possible.
If the attending tradesperson is unable to complete the required works within the emergency call-out period (up to 2 hours), you will be informed of the potential options for completion.

What is GIO Home Assist?

What are the hours of operation for a call-out?
GIO Home Assist can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our support team will be able to assess the emergency. Assistance will be provided as quickly as possible, but during certain hours there may be limited availability. The response time will depend on a variety of factors including severity, location, and the level of demand.
Is a GIO Home Assist call-out considered a claim
No, a GIO Home Assist call-out is not identified as a claim under your policy. Therefore, there is no excess payable for GIO Home Assist.
How many times can I request an emergency call-out?
You are entitled to receive three emergency call-outs during the period of insurance. Additionally, if it is determined that two tradespersons are required to attend to your single home emergency, then two emergency call-outs will be deducted from your entitlement.
Can I use my own trades person?
No. Only a qualified GIO Home Assist Tradesperson can be used.
What types of trades are cover by GIO Home Assist?
In the event of a home emergency, GIO Home Assist will be able to dispatch a plumber, an electrician, a locksmith, and/or a carpenter.
Why can’t I get GIO Home Assist in my area?
Some geographical limitations apply to availability of cover. That is, there are certain areas of Australia in which GIO Home Assist is not currently available. If you take out a quote online and the Home Assist optional cover is not available to select, it is unavailable at your location.
What is a home emergency?
A home emergency is a sudden and unforeseen incident that occurs to your home (but not your contents) and that requires the urgent attention of a tradesperson.
